Nestor Siré [Camagüey, 1988] lives and works in Havana, Cuba.
His works have been exhibited at the National Museum of Fine Arts (Cuba), the Queens Museum (US), Rhizome (US), nGbK neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst (Germany), Hong-Gah Museum (Taipei), UNAM Museum of Contemporary Art (Mexico), Malba Foundation Museum of Latin American Art (Argentina), Perlman Museum (US), Museum of Contemporary Art of Santa Fe (Argentina), The Photographers´ Gallery (United Kingdom) and Galería Moises Perez de Albeniz (Spain), among other venues.
Siré has also presented his work at the Manifesta 13 Biennial (France, 2020), Gwangju Biennale (South Korea, 2018), Curitiba Biennial (Brazil, 2017), the Havana Biennial (Cuba, 2015) and the Asunción International Biennale (Paraguay, 2016). He has also taken part in the Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Cuba, the Oberhausen International Festival of Short Film (Germany) and UCL, Multimedia Anthropology Lab (London, United Kingdom), among other venues.
In 2021, Siré received the IFA CrossCulture Programme in Germany, the National Curated Awards of Group Exhibitions in Cuba (2019), the Media Arts Assistance Grant (2018), New York State Council on the Arts, and the Visa for Creation prize from l’Institut Français (2016). He has also been awarded a variety of residencies including The Camargo Core Foundation (Casisis, France), Dos Mares (Marseille, France), the Ludwig Foundation (2013), and LASA (Havana, 2010).
From both an academic and pedagogical perspective, Siré has introduced his work to different audiences though workshops and lectures such as A world without internet at PLAYLAB, The Hague, KABK; the workshop Behind the Net [El Paquete] at DATA, ArtEZ (Netherlands); WeistSiréPC, Open Documentary Lab and Program at Art, Cultural and Technology, MIT (US); the workshop NAVEGATION_FOLDER at School of Art, Design and Creative Industries, Wichita State University (US); !!!Informal Media Cultures and Contemporary Art in Cuba; PLAS at Princeton University (US); and lectures at the Williams Collage Museum of Art (US); Digital Communications and Media, Department of Technology at New York University (US); Now You´re Playing With Power, GAIA, (Argentina); Entonos Digitales Offline en Cuba UNAM (Mexico); and Starches and informal networks in today’s Cuba, at the Faculty of Arts and Letters, University of Havana (Cuba).
