financescapes
Financescapes is Weird Economies’ new programme which seeks to trace the frontiers of the global economy as it reorganises places to its ends. In opposition to the tendency for narratives of generalisation and abstraction, we zoom in on the sites which are imbricated in the circuits of the world economy, yet retain their own irreducible specificity in their locale. With a focus on the anecdotal, the particular, and the contingent, we look at, not only, modes of sabotage, and renegade or insurgent action that arise from these specific geographies, but also adaptation, reappropriation and defeat.
Each iteration of Financescapes invites a guest editor to highlight case-studies from a particular site, to weave the threads of the local into a meta-narrative that will draw from knowledges produced in Brazil, Palestine, Portugal, and beyond.
