One might still think that there is a “slow cancellation of the future”, which was the case before March, 2020. The future in Mark Fisher’s work was losing ground to abstraction, certainties dissolved to obscurities, losing the meaning of things. A future in which there is nothing left worth living for. Systems of abstraction in their essence are necrotic operations. They value death over life, form over substance. I used to work to live, now I live to work. The advent of the global pandemic was a moment of a total crash–an accelerated permanent state of emergency–a crash in the current economic mode of production (capitalism) and a termination of the cancellation process. As the event of the pandemic comes to an end, our lives enter a timescale radically rooted in the present.

The pandemic was not a health concern as much as an ecological (worldmaking) one, a world that was built by Europe and its value system. The event of the pandemic departs from the global spread of the Covid-19 virus to Jeff Bezos trip crossing the Karman Line (edge of space) and everything in between: Australian bushfire, George Floyd protests, mass digitization, farmers protests in India, live-stream, GameStop, Gulf of Mexico pipeline leak, Dogecoin, Evergreen’s ship Ever Given and the last aggression on Gaza. What does life after death mean in a post-pandemic world?

Activism is a privilege and wokeism is the highest stage of activism. The only way to save the planet is to destroy the very foundations of modern society. Confronting systems of abstraction with systems of meaning: death with life, violence with violence. The ecological struggle is not a case of environmentalism but of self-defence. “Land or Death”1 –here signified in the position of self-defence–resists colonialism in all its forms, “Land or Death” is not a slogan limited to native struggles in Palestine, South Africa or Bolivia, but extends to all life forms on a planetary scale, against global corporations of extraction and transportation that exhaust the earth’s ecosystems, and space-escapist fantasies of colonization. Land or Death is a planetary ecological project. As a result, the question of value will regain its clarity and intelligibility once again. Complexity is a capitalist colonial instrument to render life into a legal concern under the rubrics of human rights and developmentalism.
